Speculative fiction author AnaMaria Curtis‘ newest piece “Perhaps in Understanding” is a delightfully bittersweet meditation on masking in the most literal sense. In a society where the elites can perform the socially discrete emotions with intricate masks of great beauty, a new artist navigates her rise to fame. However, she finds herself anchored by feelings too complex for any of her multitude of masks to explain; namely, those engendered by her friend’s departure.
